Harold was born in Holloway, Derbyshire, on the 26th May, 1896. He enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan, 4th November 1915, stating his occupation as a farmer, his address as Abernethy, Saskatchewan, and his next of kin as his father, William Oakley, of Holloway, Derbyshire.
He was five feet nine and three quarter inches in height, had a dark complexion, brown eyes and brown hair, and he was a Methodist.
